A new wave of most modern form of idolatry: Pakistan idol

Since the dawn of mankind, Allah has sent 124,000 Prophets (saw) to guide the mankind. Basically, their entire struggle was the same; to end idolatry and establish faith in Allah’s oneness. A few believed but prevalent in the majorities was the mesmerized and idolatrous worship, admiration and awe of their beloved false deities carved, decorated, coloured and created by their own hands. This era is no exception to this practice but as it is the modern age and everything is more advanced, we have now an upgraded form of idolatry. They can move, sing and dance. Unlike the previous forms of idols, they can exemplify themselves to the masses taking advantage of their media manipulated numbness. As Allah says:

“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah…” (Luqmaan 31:6)

Pakistan idol, a reality TV show that recently began in Pakistan is creating highlights everywhere. It is a part of an international entertainment chain known as the ‘Idol franchise’ which began in 2001. Its creator Simon Fuller is a Jewish billionaire. After brain washing an incredible 460 million viewers in over 150 countries worldwide for more than a decade, the billionaire’s motives are unclear for entering Pakistan, whether to hoard more money or to do what Allah has warned us against. Allah says:

“Verily, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the believers (Muslims) the Jews and those who are Al-Mushrikûn…” (Al-Qur’an 5:82)

If it is the enemies at the gates then what is Geo TV trying to prove by partnering with them? Geo TV, as usual is found doing the same kind of pro Indian activities. Having done auditions in almost all the major cities, it has drawn towards it masses in gigantic proportions. Carrying a bus branded for the purpose, it is clear that their city to city travel is spreading this cancer rapidly. Lining up, fighting for a chance, singing, dancing in front of the crowds in order to impress the judges is the Ummah of our Noble Prophet Muhammad (saw). Bare headed, wearing tight clothes with tones of make-up, trying to make an impression but with thousands of flies (men) flying around to feast on their attraction; are the daughters of Muslims. Piling upon the auditions like some hunger stricken poor people are the precious Muslim youth who do not realize their importance, the purpose of their lives and their country’s grave need for them. How did this infect us?

After a huge success in America, this Jewish agenda came to the nest of the musical industry, India. It began as the ‘Indian Idol’ and was an instant success amongst the already music crazy society. But consequences were seen later as this show became a great inspiration & triggered a huge number of other reality shows. So much so that it reshaped the thinking of the public. An increased number of sexual harassments and rapes have alarmingly increased. Also a craze for beauty has increased the number of facial surgeons from 3 to more than 5000. What is seen on the Indian media now is a total flip over of what was fifteen years ago. So, does that matter to us?

It is a question that almost every Pakistani is clearly aware of but sadly we have become so addicted to the Indian media that we have decided to turn a blind eye to the fact that we are Muslims. Hardly two decades ago the vulgarity which would have made us so ashamed is now a norm and can be delightfully gazed upon with lustful eyes along with our mother, sister and daughter. We have modernized ourselves and are no more people of the caves. Honestly, one should ask to himself that is this, the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (saw)? Is this what the Glorious Qur’an teaches us?

It’s a shame for us. Some might argue that what does this have to do with Islam and some might as well add that what is wrong with being modernized. Being a Muslim this is why you should not;

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said:

“Among my Ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

Moreover He also said:

“In this Ummah there will be earthquakes, disfiguration (of faces) and showers of stone.” A man from among them asked: “O Rasulullah! When will this be?” Rasulullah e said: “When singing girls and musical instruments will become profuse and when liquor will be consumed.” (Tirmizi)

For those who are the men of understanding, these words of the Messenger Allah e are sufficient to turn their ways and start worrying for what we, the Ummah, have brought ourselves to. But for those who find logic more impressing than Islam here are some aftermaths of what happens when such things are promoted. If we are going to follow nations like India and America in everything and forget the true essence of modernization then consequences in Pakistan are also very likely going to be the same. Free intermingling of the sexes is going to bring us this. US, a country where in every 2 minutes a woman is sexually assaulted and totals up to 267,868 victims (age 12 or older) annually. And guess what; approximately two thirds of assaults are committed by someone known to the victim and 38% of rapists are a friend or acquaintance. This is the kind of you might see here in Pakistan if we don’t stop traitors like Geo TV from airing such programs. In India more than half of the women in Maharashtra lose their virginity by the time they have reached 18 years of age while men have had first sexual intercourse before 24 years of age, according to the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3). Are these the countries we are supposed to follow and end up in the same abyss that they have fallen themselves to?

As a matter of fact airing such programs is illegal according to Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) under the following sections of PEMRA Code of Conduct for programmes:

1(b) No programme shall be aired which contains anything pornographic, obscene or indecent or is likely to deprave, corrupt or injure the public morality

1(i) which is against basic cultural values, morality and good manners.

Furthermore, what is the word ‘idol’ supposed to represent here? Is it that the youth of this Ummah should idolize singers and actors who are steeped in sin? Should they worship them and copy their lifestyle? But the Glorious Quran tells us that we have in the Messenger of Allah e the best example. Should Muslims abandon the best for the worst?? We are the Ummah of The Messenger of Allah e and we are going to follow His example in every walk of life. We, as a nation are already facing the anger of Allah in the form of excessive and widespread killing of innocent lives, Floods and other disasters. Promoting Music and Indecency will further aggravate His displeasure. As Allah says:

“Evil (sins and disobedience to Allah) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds), that He (Allah) may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah, and begging His Pardon).” (Al-Qur’an 30:41)

May Allah protect Pakistan from these trials and tribulations.
